Independent guidance for your next step

Accessibility statement

Our commitment to an accessible service.

Draft: this page is being finalised and is pending formal review. The information here reflects our current approach; if anything is unclear contact us and we'll help.

NextStep UK is designed to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation and adaptive settings.

What we've built in

  • Semantic HTML, meaningful headings and visible focus outlines on every interactive element.
  • Colour contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • An "♿ Accessibility" toggle in the site header that increases base text size for the whole site.
  • Respect for the prefers-reduced-motion setting — decorative animations are disabled automatically if you have this on.
  • Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images and ARIA labels on icon-only controls.

Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA.
