Careers leads and teachers

NextStep UK is free for schools, colleges, careers services and youth organisations. Any young person can use every feature independently — no institutional login, licence or purchase order needed.

How it supports the Gatsby Benchmarks

  • Benchmark 2 — labour market information: live, verified apprenticeship vacancies from GOV.UK, filterable by local area.
  • Benchmark 3 — addressing the needs of each pupil: a career discovery assessment that produces an individual profile and suggested routes.
  • Benchmark 5 — encounters with employers: real vacancies with real employers, linked to the official source.
  • Benchmark 8 — personal guidance: a saved career profile and CV a student can bring to a guidance interview.

Using it in a session

  • Run the career quiz as a 20-minute classroom activity — results show in full without an account.
  • Search live vacancies by your school's postcode to show what's genuinely available locally.
  • Use the CV Builder as a structured, evidence-based writing exercise.

What's coming for advisers

  • Adviser accounts that a young person can invite in to see their progress — with clear, revocable consent, and never behind their back.
  • Assembly-ready overviews of live apprenticeship opportunities in your local area.
  • Downloadable classroom resources for the quiz and application process.

Get involved

We're looking for schools and youth organisations to help shape the adviser features. Email schools@nextstepuk.org to join the pilot.

Safeguarding and data protection

Please read our safeguarding page and privacy notice before using NextStep UK with young people. Student accounts are private to the student, we never sell data, and no adult can see a young person's account without their explicit consent.
